Rafa Perea, BIM Manager of Vielca Ingenieros S.A., gives a talk about the application of BIM technology to the design, construction and maintenance of prefabricated buildings. The talk was held within the framework of the days that the subject of Construction with Prefabricated Elements of the Master of Concrete Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Valencia organizes for its students.
During the talk, the students were shown the differences between the construction sector and other industrial sectors such as the automotive and aeronautical sectors in terms of the whole manufacturing process, as well as their relative weight in terms of turnover.
Emphasis was placed on the applicability of BIM to all phases of construction, from planning and design to use and maintenance, including dismantling.
It explained the philosophy of BIM understood as a digital model that reproduces the aspects considered most relevant to the project and the legal need to use it by all actors involved in the construction process in accordance with the requirements established by the European Commission and the Member States.
Finally, several examples of the application of the BIM methodology to flagship works currently under way such as the Crossrail Project in London were presented.
