The aim of this study is the evaluation of 6 cooperation projects, subsidized between 2008 and 2019, in rural communities of the municipality of Jutiapa (Department of Atlántida, Honduras).
These projects consist of the construction and commissioning of water and sanitation systems co-financed by the City of Vitoria-Gasteiz, within the framework of the Jutiapa Drinking Water and Sanitation Framework Programme.
The Framework Programme is a medium- to long-term strategy formulated specifically for improving drinking water and sanitation in the municipality of Jutiapa, which began in 2007 when it was defined between the municipality of Jutiapa, the state-owned company with competence in services (SANAA), the population concerned, cooperating organizations (CARE-PASOS, AECID, etc.) and the local counterpart, SERSO Honduras.
In order to verify the current functioning of the community systems built and the sustainability of their operation, in August 2021 the City of Vitoria Gasteiz tendered the contract for the evaluation of six cooperation projects (subsidized between 2008 and 2019) in the rural communities of the municipality of Jutiapa (Department of Atlántida, Honduras), as well as the verification of the progress of the works of the drinking water project in 3 rural communities of Jutiapa currently being implemented and being awarded to Vielca Ingenieros, S.A.
The work began in December 2021 with the collection of information on the projects carried out and the scheduling of the fieldwork. Field visits were carried out, presenting the consultancy to the key players, checking the functioning of the system elements, taking water samples for analysis in an accredited laboratory and developing user satisfaction surveys.
A total of 19 systems in the Municipality of Jutiapa were inspected and evaluated.
