Summary:
The REMOURE project aims to investigate the feeding apparatus of various marine species with high microplankton capture efficiency, to replicate it and apply it to the removal of microplastics in wastewater treatment systems.
For this purpose, it will develop a sequential work methodology, in which:
1. Conduct a literature search to identify the most appropriate organisms.
2. Analyse the morphology of these organisms and reproduce them using additive technology and 3D printing.
3. Construct a hydrodynamic test rig and analyse the flow conditions.
4. Develop a CFD simulation model from the test rig results for the optimisation of the filter geometry.
5. Construct a filtration pilot, in which the applicability of the resulting geometry for the filtration of microplastics in wastewater is evaluated.

Strategic cooperation projects. Convocatoria 2022.
Duration:
09.2022 – 08.2024
Results:
The REMOURE project has achieved the following results:
- Design of a filter for the removal of particles and microplastics from wastewater, capable of retaining particles smaller than its mesh size.
- Development and validation of a CFD calculation model based on hydrodynamic tests, which predicts the behaviour of the fluid through the filter and will be useful for future research and design evolutions.
- Design of filters with high efficiency in the capture of microparticles, with low energy consumption and, more interestingly in the field of wastewater, with lower fouling rates.
