THE MARN PRESENTS THE FIRST NATIONAL FOREST INVENTORY OF EL SALVADOR DEVELOPED BY VIELCA

The first National Forest Inventory of El Salvador, prepared by VIELCA INGENIEROS, indicates that the country has a forest mass of 37.9%. Not bad for a country of 21,000 square kilometers and a population of over 6.5 million people.
The Forest Inventory was presented on November 18, by the heads of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Lina Pohl and Ángel Ibarra, respectively, and by forest engineer, Constan Amurrio, a specialist of VIELCA – the Spanish firm that was in charge of the total sweep of the territory to prepare the document.
The document was prepared with the aim of knowing the dasometric characteristics, that is, through the application of statistical methods to find solutions to problems associated with the existence, growth and management of forests.
Overall, the inventory highlights that the country has a total of 799,209 ha (37.9% of the country’s surface). The figure does not include land under predominantly agricultural or urban use.
